Macaroni Fish Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • 500g Haddock Fillet
  • Juice 1/2 Lemon
  • Salt and Pepper
  • 25g Butter
  • 225g macaroni
  • 25g Cheddar Cheese (Grated)

For the Sauce

  • 25g butter
  • 25g flour
  • 300ml milk
  • few drops Worcestershire sauce
  • 50g Cheddar cheese, grated
  • parsley sprig to garnish

1. Place the fish in an ovenproof dish, pour over the lemon juice, season and dot with the butter. Cover the dish and cook in a moderate oven, 180°C for 10 to 15 minutes or until just cooked.

2. Meanwhile, cook the macaroni in boiling salted water for 10 to 12 minutes or until just tender. Drain thoroughly.

3. In a saucepan melt the butter, stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually add the milk, stirring constantly, to make a smooth sauce. Add the Worcestershire sauce to taste and bring the mixture to the boil, stirring, Stir in the cheese.

4. Remove any skin or bones from the fish and flake roughly. Stir the fish and macaroni into the sauce. Pour the mixture into a warmed ovenproof dish, sprinkle over the remaining cheese and place under a hot grill (broiler) for 3 minutes or until the top is bubbling and golden.

5. Garnish with the parsley and serve immediately as a warming supper dish.
