Chinese Sticky Sweet and Sour Pork Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 lb lean pork (boned)
  • 2 level tablespoons cornflour
  • 8 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 green pepper

For the Sauce

  • 1 level tablespoon cornflour
  • 2 level tablespoons caster sugar
  • 2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 level tablespoons tomato purée
  • 1 1/2  tablespoons pale sherry

1. Mix all the sauce ingredients, with 6 tablespoons of water, in a bowl, blending thoroughly until smooth. Cut the pork into 1/2 inch cubes and toss them in cornflour. Heat 6 tablespoons of oil in a frying pan, and fry the pork cubes over high heat for 4-5 minutes, turning them often until nearly brown.

2. Pour off all the oil, add the soy sauce and mix with the pork, over low heat, for 1 minute. Heat the remaining oil in a separate pan, and add the green pepper, cut into strips, 1 inch. long by 1/2 inch wide.

3. Stir-fry in the oil for 1 1/2 minutes, over moderate heat. Reduce the heat, stir the sauce and pour it over the pepper. Stir continuously until the sauce thickens and becomes translucent. Add the pork cubes and turn them in the sauce for 1minute.
