People are Switching to Reusable Fabric Toilet Paper to Save Money
In March 2020, when many countries issued coronavirus lockdown measures, toilet paper became a coveted item. People started purchasing the item in large amounts in anticipation of a shortage amid the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, sales of toilet paper soared by more than 23%.
Due to this, some people decided to make their own cloth reusable toilet rolls. Cherish O’Dell, a coronavirus prepper from Independence, Missouri, started making a fabric version of toilet paper. Just like regular toilet paper, the reusable one comes in rolls with users able to snap off the sheets before using them.
O’Dell first made the reusable toilet paper to help her twin brother, who has severe epilepsy. However, when the pandemic struck, it sent her into survival mode just like everyone else, and she started making reusable toilet paper. Today, many people are also making reusable toilet paper to save money and the environment.
How Reusable Toilet Paper Works…
Regular toilet paper is usually made of pulp. A machine presses it onto a large screen to drain the water. This leaves a white paper product that’s scraped by large metal blades from the screen. The paper is then spooled onto rolls.
Reusable toilet paper is actually based on a similar concept to cloth nappies. However, instead of paper, people use strips or squares of cloth. Most people craft reusable toilet paper from single-ply 100% cotton flannel. Cotton is hypoallergenic, making it suitable for all skin types.
The reusable toilet paper comes in rolls just like regular toilet paper. In fact, you can snap off the cloth-like sheets thanks to a popper attached to each sheet. After use, you simply add them to your regular laundry.
You can also place them in a container with boiling water, clean them and use them again.
The reusable toilet paper is eco-friendly and cost-effective. You don’t have to spend so much money on regular toilet paper, and you’ll never run out of reusable toilet paper. Its soft, easy to wash, and comes in numerous designs.
