How to Make DIY Spider Repellent to use in your Home

Many people are not keen on the idea of spiders living in their home. However, stopping spiders getting in does not have to involve the use of toxic chemicals.

If you are looking for a natural spider repellent, then peppermint essential oil is one of the most effective solutions there is. Spiders really hate the smell of peppermint, but a lot of people actually find it quite pleasant.

It’s really easy to make your own DIY spider repellent using peppermint oil. You only need a few supplies which are listed below.

What you need…

  • 8-10 drops of peppermint essential oil.
  • Water
  • 60ml glass spray bottle

It is recommended that you use a glass spray bottle because essential oils can cause plastic bottles to degrade.

How to Make the Solution…

Fill a 60ml glass spray bottle with water and add approximately 10 drops of the peppermint oil. If you are using a bigger spray bottle, then you just need to adjust the amount of essential oils you add accordingly.

Apply The Solution To All The Areas Where Spiders Can Get In…

The most obvious areas to apply the solution are around the frames of your doors and windows. However, you may want to also think about any small cracks in the ceilings or walls. If there is a particular room that most of the spiders seem to gravitate towards, then you might want to spray some of the solution in there as well.

Reapply As Often As Is Needed…

Reapplying the solution once a week will usually be enough to keep the spiders out, although you may need to do it twice a week during the summer. One of the best things about using this spray is that it does not harm spiders in any way, it is only the smell that repels them.
